*Entering 5th graders must read 4 books this summer:

~Iqbal by Francesco D'Adamo (This book was given to all students before the end of school. If you are new to SHS, the book will be mailed to you.)

and

~Three choices from the Recommended Summer Reading List

Please do not read: The Great Gilly Hopkins, In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Kite Rider.

*Entering 6th graders must read 4 books this summer:

~Iqbal by Francesco D'Adamo

~Thunder Cave by Roland Smith

and

~Two choices from the Recommended Summer Reading List

*Entering 7th graders must read 4 books this summer:

~Iqbal by Francesco D'Adamo

~Jack's Black Book by Jack Gantos

and

~Two choices from the Recommended Summer Reading List (not the same genre) Students must also comment on their two choices on the Grade VII Virtual Book Club.

*Entering 8th graders must read 5 books this summer:

~Iqbal by Francesco D'Adamo

~American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang.

~The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

and

~Two other choices from the Recommended Summer Reading List

Parent and Faculty Summer Read

~Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv (a few copies available for loan at the Front Desk)
